The problem
Reading apps are generic: the same recommendations, the same language, the same definition of success. They measure pages read, not what a book changes in someone.
For readers of the Afro-Caribbean diaspora, the offer is even thinner: few cultural references, few links between readers, and the feeling that the literature that matters to them is an exception.
Why it is hard
What is lost:
- recommendations that resemble nobody;
- reading in isolation, when it is meant to be shared;
- habits that fade for lack of a rendezvous;
- and a culture that circulates poorly.
What we are building
A warm reading journal: a personal library, sessions, challenges, reviews, and an Afro-Caribbean editorial layer that provides landmarks and desires.
A community of readers who recommend books to each other, share their notes and meet around the same title, in several languages.
What changes
- reading becomes a rendezvous again;
- books circulate between readers;
- a community recognises itself in the same references.
What comes next
This is being built at Grantity R&D, the lab, with readers and booksellers who know their audience.
